Rupee weakens against US dollar on Thursday

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Thursday, tracking weakness in domestic equities. Moreover, strength in the American currency at overseas markets also pulled the rupee lower. Meanwhile, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes indicating that the policymakers shall remain committed to raising interest rates aggressively for taming inflation. However, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 2,347.22 crore on Wednesday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.68, weaker by 23 paise from its previous close of 79.45 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.7050 and 79.60 respectively.
