BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha today resigned from the post of the Bihar Assembly Speaker, minutes before the floor test. The resignation came just ahead of the floor test scheduled in the Bihar Assembly where the Nitish Kumar-led government will have to prove its majority.

He announced his resignation after an emotionally charged speech in which he expressed anguish over the no-confidence motion moved against him by the ruling 'Mahagathbandhan' alliance gov led by CM Nitish Kumar. Sinha made a hasty exit from the House, and MLAs of the BJP, raised slogans like Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and Jai Shri Ram'. Earlier, he had said that he wanted to ‘resign on his own’ after the sudden change in the Bihar government, but decided otherwise after he learnt that a no-confidence motion was moved against him. According to the rules, after the resignation of the Speaker, the proceedings of Bihar Vidhan Sabha will be conducted by Deputy Speaker.
