Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Thursday as investors are cautiously awaiting US Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole conference this week for fresh clues on the path for monetary policy. Further, gains in global crude oil benchmarks also weakened rupee sentiments. However, firm trend at domestic equities following foreign fund inflows into the capital markets restricted the fall in rupee value. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital markets, as they purchased shares worth Rs 23.19 crore on Wednesday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.88, weaker by 2 paise from its previous close of 79.86 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.8975 and 79.80 respectively.
