Bhupendra Chaudhary appointed UP BJP chief

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today appointed Uttar Pradesh (UP) cabinet minister Bhupendra Chaudhary as the party's state unit chief. Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, a Jat leader from western UP also the state minister for Panchayati Raj in the Yogi government, replaces Swatantra Dev Singh, an OBC leader from southern UP.

The decision comes after the BJP top authority called on CM Yogi Adityanath and Chaudhary to Delhi to discuss the matter. Chaudhary, met BJP president J P Nadda late yesterday evening. CM Yogi Adityanath congratulated Chaudhary on his appointment, saying his ‘energetic leadership’ will set new benchmarks for the party's success. With Chaudhary's appointment, UP will become the third state where the BJP will be headed by a Jat leader, after O P Dhankar in Haryana and Satish Poonia in Rajasthan.
