Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Friday, weighed down by strength of the American currency in the overseas market. Further, Moody’s Investors Service slashed India’s economic growth projection for 2022 to 7.7% from 8.8% also weighed on rupee sentiments. Weak Asian and emerging market peers along with higher inflation expectations also dampened sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 2,290.31 crore on Thursday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.79, weaker by 23 paise from its previous close of 79.56 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.7975 and 79.6100 respectively.
