Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot will not contest for Congress Presidential Election

Rajasthan Chief Minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot today announced that he will not contest for the post of Congress president. This comes after he met with Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi following the political crisis in Rajasthan.

Ashok Gehlot said he decided not to contest the elections in view of the recent developments in Rajasthan. He said ‘I met Rahul Gandhi in Kochi and requested him to fight in the polls. When he didn't accept, I said I will contest but now with that incident (in Rajasthan), I have decided not to contest the elections,’. When asked about whether he would continue as the Rajasthan CM, Gehlot said that Sonia Gandhi will decide on the matter. Ashok Gehlot, a three-time state CM, described himself as a disciplined soldier of the party and expressed his sadness over the turn of affairs in the state.
