Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Monday, tracking strong American currency at overseas markets and muted trend in domestic equities. Rupee sentiments weakened further on growing fears that monetary tightening could lead to a global recession. Moreover, foreign fund outflows and surging crude prices in the international market ahead of OPEC meeting scheduled on Wednesday also impacted rupee trade. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) net sold equities worth Rs 1,565.31 crore on September 30, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.71, weaker by 31 paise from its previous close of 81.40 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.8250 and 81.65 respectively.
