The Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena today submitted its choice of three poll symbols to the Election Commission (EC) for the next month's Andheri (East) bypoll. The three options are - 'Shining sun', 'Shield and sword', and 'Peepal Tree'.
The submission has come a day after the EC allotted the name 'Balasahebanchi ShivSena' to Shinde faction and asked give fresh alternate symbols on October 11. Yesterday, the poll body refused to allot 'Trishul', 'Rising Sun' and 'Gada' as symbols to any of the Sena faction saying they were not in the list of free symbols. The EC had allotted 'flaming torch' (mashaal) election symbol to the Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena and recognised it as 'ShivSena - Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray'. The new symbol will be used by candidates of the Thackeray faction in the upcoming by-election and till the final order is passed in the current dispute.
