Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Tuesday

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking firm domestic equities and weaker US dollar index. Rupee improved further on soothed fears over interest rate hikes after the RBI said inflation looked set to ease and as risk sentiment improved globally on Britain's fiscal policy U-turn. Although, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets, as they offloaded shares worth Rs 372.03 crore on Monday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.24, stronger by 6 paise from its previous close of 82.30 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.2550 and 82.0250 respectively.
