Rupee weakens against US dollar on Friday

Indian rupee weakened marginally against the US dollar on Friday, tracking a firm American currency at overseas markets along with expectations of further big interest rate hikes from the US Federal Reserve. Moreover, elevated oil prices and volatility in domestic equities also made investors cautious. Although, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,864.79 crore on Thursday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.85, weaker by 6 paise from its previous close of 82.79 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.9150 and 82.73 respectively.
