Natural rubber production estimated at 693,200 tonnes for April-Dec 2012

The production of natural rubber for April-December 2012 is estimated provisionally at 693,200 tonnes, as per the report complied by International Rubber Study Group (IRSG). For the nine month period the consumption stood at 742,330 tonnes with a growth of 3.2% over the corresponding period in the previous year. On the other hand, the consumption of natural rubber during November and December month declined by 4% and 8% respectively.

During April to December 2012 period the import of natural rubber stood at 168,686 tonnes while export stood at 10,608 tonnes. The import of natural rubber through duty free channels accounted for 46% of the total during the period.

For the year 2012-13, the production and consumption of natural rubber are projected at 920,000 tonnes and 970,000 tonnes respectively. The projected closing stock of natural rubber in 2012 -13 is 290,000 tonnes.
