Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday due to prospects of slower US Federal Reserve rate hikes. Although, a negative trend in domestic equities following foreign fund outflows capped rupee's rise to some extent. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets as they offloaded shares worth Rs 153.89 crore on Monday, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, the forex market was closed on Monday on account of Diwali. On the global front, Chinese yuan hit its weakest level in nearly 15 years, while its offshore counterpart hit a new record low on growing concerns that the country’s new political leadership could threaten economic growth with anti-business policies.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.76, stronger by 12 paise from its previous close of 82.88 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.78 and 82.62 respectively.
