Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has entered into agreement with Airport Authority of India (AAI) for launching commercial flights from Rourkela in Odisha. The company has signed the operation and management contract with AAI through its unit Rourkela Steel Plant. AAI, on behalf of SAIL - Rourkela Steel Plant, will operate and manage the airport.
The start of operations at Rourkela airport under the RCS-UDAN would benefit the citizens of this city through better connectivity and also speed up the development activities in the region. Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) -UDAN, a flagship project of the central government launched by the civil aviation ministry, envisages enhancing the regional air connectivity by providing support in terms of infrastructure and other facilities.
SAIL is India’s largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country’s Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
