Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday as the American currency weakened ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision on Wednesday for hints on the pace of future rate hikes. Moreover, easing crude oil prices, positive trend in domestic equities and foreign fund inflows also supported rupee sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets as they purchased shares worth Rs 4,178.61 crore on Monday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.69, stronger by 12 paise from its previous close of 82.81 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.79 and 82.62 respectively.
