Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Wednesday tracking weak domestic equities ahead of the US central bank’s much-awaited monetary policy decision later in the day, with the Fed is widely expected to announce its benchmark rate hikes by 75 basis points (bps). However, persistent foreign fund inflows and a weaker American currency overseas supported rupee sentiments and capped further fall in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in capital markets as they purchased shares worth Rs 2,609.94 crore on Tuesday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.72, weaker by 13 paise from its previous close of 82.59 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.7250 and 82.6275 respectively.
