03 Nov 2022 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly lower on Thursday, tracked by sharp fall in US shares overnight after the US central bank raised interest rates by 75 basis points, as widely expected, and Fed Chair Jerome Powell signaled more increases ahead. Chinese shares slipped as the country once again imposed covid-19 lockdown in several cities and also ramped up curbs to defend against fresh Covid cases. Hong Kong shares slumped after data showed China's services sector shrank more than expected in October, while the Monetary Authority has raised its base rate by 75 basis points to keep pace with the Fed rate hike. Meanwhile, Japanese market was closed on account of Culture Day holiday.
