01 Feb 2013 Evaluate

NIIT Technologies has introduced a Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) in Jharkhand. With this system, Jharkhand Police force will get criminal information across the state, in order to enhance security and improve service to citizens. At present, NIIT is working with 4 states - Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, under the CCTNS programme.

The entity has started with the first phase implementation in two pilot districts, Ranchi and Khunti, at 44 police stations and 57 higher offices. The project will link 478 police stations, connect 628 locations, and train 42,000 police personnel across the districts of Ranchi and Khunti, to help getting them familiarized with the digitization know-how.

The CCTNS will help the police to keep track of progress of 22 lakh records and reduce manual and redundant records. People can lodge an FIR online or check the status of an investigation by the click of a mouse, and can request the police for various kinds of verification online.
