Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Monday tracking the strength of the American currency in the overseas market amid hawkish commentary from Federal Reserve policymakers, while investors are awaiting the release of the FOMC’s meeting minutes for clues on the size of the next interest rate hike in December. Further, weak domestic equities following fears of a global recession and a spike in Covid-19 cases in several Chinese cities also weighed on rupee sentiments. Moreover, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in capital markets as they offloaded shares worth Rs 751.20 crore on Friday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.79, weaker by 5 paise from its previous close of 81.74 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.91 and 81.7450 respectively.
