Indian rupee strengthened against US dollar on Thursday as the American currency retreated from its elevated levels after the Federal Reserve's latest meeting minutes showed that most of Fed policymakers supported a slower pace of interest rate hikes. Moreover, positive domestic equities also boosted investor confidence in rupee. However, worries over a potential global recession and China’s worst Covid-19 outbreak capped further gains in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Wednesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 789.86 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.70, stronger by 23 paise from its previous close of 81.93 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.7525 and 81.6650 respectively.
