Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday tracking positive trend in domestic equities. Further, weakness in American currency overseas and foreign fund inflows also supported rupee sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers on Tuesday as they bought shares worth Rs 1,241.57 crore, exchange data showed. However, investors will be cautiously focusing on the US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's speech for insights into the Fed’s monetary policy path.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.60, stronger by 12 paise from its previous close of 81.72 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.6450 and 81.5500 respectively.
