Shinde favours Telangana Territorial Council as a solution to the deadlock

05 Feb 2013 Evaluate
Beyond speculation on UPA government’s plan to set upTelangana Territorial Council along the lines of the Bodo Territorial Council pact to solve the Telangana statehood issue, Andhra Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has met the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Though, the final decision may soon be taken at a Congress core group meeting. Shinde is in favour of the Telangana Territorial Council as a solution to the deadlock. However, the body will not have a control over the law and order machinery and that power will still reside with Andhra Pradesh government.

The Telangana Territorial Council will have its own elected executive members for a term of 5 years and if the Council is along the lines of the Bodo Council, the body will have numerous powers including control over development funds.

The government had missed the deadline of January 28 and sought more time and discussions to arrive at a solution.
