Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday tracking firm trend in domestic equities following largely positive cues from global markets. Weaker American currency against key rivals also supported rupee sentiments. However, sustained foreign fund outflows and uncertainty about the US Federal Reserve's path of rate hikes, restricted further gains in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Thursday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,131.67 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.16, stronger by 22 paise from its previous close of 82.38 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.3025 and 82.1525 respectively.
