Congress moves no-confidence motion against MP govt in Assembly; Speaker admits it

The opposition Congress today moved a no-confidence motion against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in the Madhya Pradesh (MP) Assembly.

Madhya Pradesh assembly speaker Girish Gautam on the first day of the winter session admitted the no-confidence motion proposed by the Congress for discussion on Wednesday. After transacting the scheduled business, the discussion on the motion began in the House. The Congress has submitted a 104-page ‘charge sheet’ against the state government on 51 points. The matter of corruption in the central government schemes including housing, education, including nursing colleges scam and construction of many infrastructures have been included. This is the first such motion against chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan since 2011.

The Congress had earlier issued a whip asking all MLAs of the party to remain present in the House during the ongoing winter session. In the 230-member Assembly, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has 127 MLAs and the Congress 96.
