Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Thursday due to weak American currency at overseas markets. Jump in global crude oil benchmarks and forex outflows from capital markets, however, restricted the rupee’s gains. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net sellers in the capital markets on Wednesday as they sold shares worth Rs 1,119.11 crore, exchange data showed. On the global front, the yen firmed as Japanese bond yields shifted into a new higher range.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.71, stronger by 13 paise from its previous close of 82.84 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.7850 and 82.6750 respectively.
