Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking firm domestic equities after better-than-expected December Manufacturing PMI reading of 57.8 against 55.7 in prior month. Rupee sentiments improved further as crude oil prices retreated from its elevated levels. However, worries over the global growth outlook and sustained foreign fund outflows from Indian capital markets have hurt the rupee and restricted the appreciation bias. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 212.57 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.75, stronger by 3 paise from its previous close of 82.78 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.7675 and 82.6850 respectively.
