Copper futures settled higher on Thursday amidst the relaxing of more anti-covid curbs in the world’s top metal consumer China. The Chinese government said it would gradually reopen the border with financial hub Hong Kong on January 8. Although, fears of a looming recession in 2023 capped further gains in copper prices.

Copper futures for March delivery gained $0.0805 to settle at $3.8210 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 1.48 percent at $8,374.50 a ton.
