Indian rupee was trading flat against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, pressured by weak trend in domestic equities following sustained foreign fund outflows and growing recession fears globally. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market on Tuesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 2,109.34 crore, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, traders were cautiously awaiting December inflation data from the United States due this week for further clues on the US Federal Reserve's interest rate hike path. Meanwhile, easing of crude oil prices supported rupee value.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading flat at its previous close of 81.74 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.82 and 81.61 respectively.
