EC announces Tripura, Nagaland & Meghalaya Assembly Election Dates

The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the election schedule of three North Eastern states -- Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland which are scheduled to go for assembly polls in 2023.

The election for the assembly of Tripura will take place on 16 February, while Meghalaya and Nagaland elections will take place on 27 February. The result for all three state assemblies will be declared on 2 March. Addressing the press conference, CEC Rajiv Kumar said that there are as many as 9,125 polling stations in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. The participation of women voters and their numbers on the electoral rolls are higher than men.

The terms of all three state assemblies, each with a strength of 60 members, ends in March - Nagaland on March 12, Meghalaya on March 15 and Tripura on March 22. While Tripura has a BJP government, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is in power in Nagaland. The National People’s Party (NPP), the only political party from the northeast to have a national party recognition, runs the government in Meghalaya.
