Pfizer to appeal patent order on cancer drug - Sutent

Pfizer, a multinational drug maker has decided to appeal against an order by the Indian Patent Office, rejecting the company’s claim for a patent over its anti-cancer drug, Sutent. Pfizer’s patent on the drug was revoked by Patent Controller, stating that the claim does not involve any inventive steps. So, the drug maker appealed in the Supreme Court. However, the apex court reinstated the patent and directed the patent office for a fresh hearing.

Pfizer manufactures prescription drugs such as Viagra, Lyrica, Viagra, Dolonex Gel, Ponstan, Citralka Liquid, and many more. Its first production unit was set up at Darukhanna in Mumbai.
