With a few months left for Karnataka assembly elections, the Congress is sharply focusing on women voters promising cash transfers and separate manifesto. Seeking to raise the pitch, women aspirants have also been pushing for allotment of at least 15 per cent of the tickets.

The Congress in Karnataka promised Rs 2,000 a month to every women head of households if the party is voted to power in the State. Earlier, it promised 200 units of free power a month to all homes in the State. The party is also preparing a separate manifesto for women. The Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra recently announced 'Na Nayaki' ('I am the woman leader') project under which the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme offering Rs 2,000 was promised. According to her, a separate manifesto for women, as was done in Uttar Pradesh, will be brought out in Karnataka. Conceding that the Congress experiment of women-centric manifesto did not translate into electoral gains in Uttar Pradesh, she, however, had said it made other political parties come up with promises for women.

The Congress aims to wrest power from the BJP in the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections, which slated to be held in May this year.
