Asian markets settle mostly higher on Friday

27 Jan 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Friday, even as Chinese and Taiwan markets were still closed for the Lunar New Year holidays. Wall Street's overnight gains following better than expected GDP data from the United States also supported Asian market sentiments. Strong US GDP data also fuelled hopes the US economy might be able to avoid a recession. Japanese shares ended almost flat, while the Japanese yen rose as greater-than-expected Tokyo inflation readings fed into expectations for more hawkish moves by the Japanese central bank.
