During ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2012-13, the government agencies have procured 25,608,056 tonne of rice, as per data made available to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The total amount of rice procured till February 15, 2013 during current KMS, is 179,939 tonnes more than the rice procured during the corresponding period of previous season.
The highest procurement of rice has been done in the state of Punjab amounting 8,556,984 tonne which is followed by the state of Chhattisgarh which procured 4,537,299 and Andhra Pradesh state which procured 3,238,069 tonne of rice.
Besides, the state of Haryana and Odisha also made significant procurement of around 2,593,759 and 2,220,528 tonne of rice respectively.
