India’s cotton production stands at 341.91 lakh bales in current cotton year 2022-23

The Union Minister of State for Textiles, Darshana Jardosh has said that as per the provisional data, India’s cotton production stood at 341.91 lakh bales (provisional) in current cotton year 2022-23. The cotton year runs from October 2022 to September 2023. The provisional cotton production during last cotton year 2021-22 was 312.03 lakh bales (provisional).

As per the data, of the total production, output from Maharashtra was 80.25 lakh bales (provisional) in current cotton year over 71.18 lakh bales (provisional) in last cotton year. Production in Madhya Pradesh came at 15.19 lakh bales (provisional) in 2022-23 as compared to 14.20 lakh bales (provisional) in 2021-22. Whereas, Uttar Pradesh production stood at 0.065 lakh bales (provisional) in the reporting year as compared to 0.086 lakh bales (provisional) in the corresponding period of last year.

On the consumption front, the country’s cotton consumption stood at 313.77 lakh bales in cotton year 2021-22, slightly down as compared to 334.87 lakh bales in cotton year 2020-21. Meanwhile, for the cotton year 2019-20, the country’s consumption was 269.19 lakh bales. Export of cotton stood worth Rs 14,887.36 crore, Rs 17,914.34 crore and Rs 8,813.98 crore in cotton year 2021-22, 2020-21 and 2019-20, respectively.
