Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Thursday tracking American currency’s retreat from its elevated levels, despite lingering concerns over more interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve to contain soaring inflation. However, rise in global crude oil benchmarks and foreign fund outflows limited further gains in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market on Wednesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 579.82 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.76, stronger by 12 paise from its previous close of 82.88 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.7950 and 82.7475 respectively.
