Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday amid firm trend in domestic as well as global equities, despite continuous outflows from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). FIIs were net sellers in the capital market on Thursday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 282.06 crore, exchange data showed. Moreover, weakness in American currency at overseas markets also supported rupee to strength in today's trade. However, fears of a banking crisis in US and Europe, limited further gains in rupee. Investors are cautiously awaiting interest rate decisions from the European Central Bank on Thursday and the US Federal Reserve later this month.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.48, stronger by 28 paise from its previous close of 82.76 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.58 and 82.48 respectively.
