Rahul Gandhi disqualification: Dressed in black, Opposition protest to save democracy

Congress-led opposition members protested against the Modi government wearing black clothes over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as MP from Lok Sabha and the Adani issue.

The Congress MPs today took out a march from parliament to Vijay Chowk, with a huge ‘Satyamev Jayate; banner and placards with ‘save democracy’ written on them. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge with Congress MP Sonia Gandhi and fellow Opposition raised slogans against the ruling BJP-led Union Government. They accused the Centre and PM of finishing the democracy in the country. Mallikarjun Kharge hit out at the Centre and alleged that it used the probe agencies to bend those who did not bow before the government. Explaining the advantages of the constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee, the RS Leader of Opposition said that there will be transparency after the report is out. He further questioned the government stating that there will be more number of representations from the BJP and its allies in the JPC. He said opposition MPs were dressed in black as the Prime Minister is ‘finishing’ democracy.

Earlier today, the opposition MPs met today at the chamber of LoP Rajya Sabha and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the Parliament building to formulate the strategy for the day. Several opposition parties including DMK, Samajwadi Party, JD(U), Bharat Rashtra Samithi, CPI(M), RJD, Nationalist Congress Party, CPI, IUML, MDMK, Kerala Congress, TMC, RSP, AAP, J-K NC and Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) participated in the meeting. Trinamool Congress MPs also participated in the meeting. Protests were also held in states of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat.
