Rupee weakens against US dollar on Thursday

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Thursday amid firm American currency at overseas markets. Growing recession worries also adding more pressure on rupee sentiments. However, the rupee’s falls were capped by firm domestic equities following foreign fund inflows into capital market and after India's central bank unexpectedly kept its repo rate unchanged at 6.50%. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Wednesday as they purchased shares worth Rs 806.82 crore, exchange data showed. 

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.98, weaker by 8 paise from its previous close of 81.90 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.06 and 81.8825 respectively.
