Rajya Sabha (RS) MP and former Goa chief minister Luizinho Faleiro has tendered his resignation today from the Upper House of Parliament.

RS Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. Long being sidelined from the party affairs in Goa, Faleiro was being nudged by the Mamata Banerjee-led party to resign as a Member of Parliament. The Mamata Banerjee-led party had been upset with Faleiro after he refused to contest the 2022 state Assembly polls from Fatorda against Goa Forward Party’s Vijai Sardesai. He was elected to the RS on a TMC ticket ahead of the Goa Assembly Elections in 2022. Faleiro had joined TMC after quitting the Congress in 2021.

After submitting his resignation, Faleiro said that he joined TMC after being ‘inspired’ by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s invitation. ‘I had hoped that with her leadership and personal involvement and with fresh grassroots candidates, Goa would see a new template of grassroot politics which is what the name Trinamool stands for’, he added. He further added that he is not joining any party at the moment. He also thanked ‘didi’ for entrusting him with important positions in the party.
