Supreme Court (SC) today dismissed the plea seeking transfer for assets of Uddhav Thackeray faction to the Eknath Shinde camp.
The plea was filed by a Mumbai-based lawyer Ashish Giri seeking direction to restrain the Thackeray group from transferring party funds. A bench of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha questioned the locus of petitioner Ashish Giri, and dismissed his plea. The bench asked ‘What kind of petition is this and who are you. Your request cannot be entertained'. Dismissing the petition, the court held that it was not maintainable.
Ashish Giri said a plea was filed in the top court as it heard various petitions relating to the feud between the Thackeray and the Shinde factions. He had said the assets of the party should be transferred to the Shinde faction. Earlier, the Election Commission of India granted the symbol, bow and arrow, to the Shinde faction and the issue is presently sub-judice. Various petitions are pending before the apex court filed by both the rival factions Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde pertaining to the Maharashtra political crisis.
