Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday tracking significant foreign fund inflows into capital market, with exchange data showed that Foreign Institutional Investors were net buyers as they bought shares worth Rs 1,997.35 crore on Tuesday. Further, weakness of the American currency in the overseas market and crude oil prices below $80 a barrel, also supported rupee. Although, caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve's rate decision capped further strength in domestic currency.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.84, stronger by 3 paise from its previous close of 81.87 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.8650 and 81.7550 respectively.
