Asian markets settle mostly higher on Monday

15 May 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Monday ahead of US and Chinese data as well as speeches by US Federal Reserve officials lined up through the week. Chinese and Hong Kong shares gained as China’s central bank PBoC injected more long-term liquidity into the financial system in a bid to bolster economic growth, while investors are awaiting Chinese industrial production, retail sales and fixed asset investment data due on Tuesday. Moreover, Japanese shares climbed as weakening yen and robust corporate earnings boosted market sentiments. Although, Wall Street’s fall last Friday with worries over a debt-ceiling standoff on raising the US government's $31.4 trillion borrowing limit and unexpected acceleration in US Consumer long-term inflation expectations have kept investors cautious.
