Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday, supported by sustained foreign fund inflows into capital market with data showed Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,685.29 crore on Monday. Rupee improved further after data showed India's trade deficit narrowed to a 20-month low of $15.24 billion in April 2023 even as exports contracted by 12.7% for the third month in a row to $34.66 billion. However, rising oil prices after the US begins refilling its strategic reserve and has confirmed purchasing up to 3 million barrels of oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, limited further gains in rupee.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 82.20, stronger by 11 paise from its previous close of 82.31 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 82.2350 and 82.1625 respectively.
