Asian markets end mostly higher on Tuesday

16 May 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets ended mostly higher on Tuesday on China stimulus hopes, despite data showed Chinese industrial production, retail sales and fixed asset investment missed expectations in April. Market sentiments improved further by tracking Wall Street’s gains overnight as both US President Joe Biden and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed optimism about an eventual agreement on raising the US debt. Seoul shares gained marginally after data showed South Korea’s export and import prices rose for a third consecutive month in April as the Korean won weakened against the US dollar. Moreover, Japanese shares rose by strong corporate earnings with signs that inflationary pressures might be easing.
