Asian markets settle mixed on Wednesday

17 May 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mixed on Wednesday in line with Wall Street’s overnight fall after a disappointing forecast from Home Depot and ahead of outcome of ongoing $31.4 trillion US debt ceiling negotiations. Chinese shares fell amid concerns about uneven economic recovery in China, while data showed Chinese house prices declined for an eleventh straight month in April. Meanwhile, Japanese shares gained by encouraging domestic earnings and stronger than expected first quarter GDP data, while weaker yen also boosted exporters.
