NMDC inks contract for setting up country’s largest blast furnace

NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer has inked contract for setting up country’s largest blast furnace of 4506 cubic meter for its steel plant with Tata Projects, Danieli Corus, Netherland and Danieli Corus, India. The company as part of its forward integration and value addition is setting up the 3 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh State.

The proposed 3 MTPA steel plant would be the fastest moving steel plant project among all green field or brown field projects in the country. NMDC has faith on the consortium for commission of blast furnace within a period of 33 months which will have all state-of-the-art features. The blast furnace will be designed for production of 9,000 tonnes per day with the state-of-art refractory and soft water closed loop system. It will have Bell Less Top Charging Equipment and Pulverized Coal Injection to reduce the operating cost to improve the furnace performance.

The company’s net profit surged 97% to Rs 2098.62 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2011 as compared to Rs 1065.59 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has increased from Rs 2228.89 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 to Rs 4213.03 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2011.

For the year ended March 31, 2011, the company has posted a net profit of Rs 6499.22 crore as compared to Rs 3447.26 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010, up 89%. Its total income has increased from Rs 7100.80 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010 to Rs 12574.64 crore for the year ended March 31, 2011.
