Government implements various schemes to increase production of Pulses, Oilseeds

The government has been implementing several Crop Development Schemes/Programmes in order to increase production of pulses and oilseeds. The programmes being implemented are National Food Security Mission-Pulses (NFSM-Pulses), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), Macro Management of Agriculture (MMA), Integrated Scheme of Oilseeds, Pulses, Oil Palm & Maize (ISOPOM), etc.

In order to take up active propagation of key technologies in the form of block demonstrations for improving productivity of pulses a new programme, ‘Accelerated Pulses Production Programme (A3P)’ in addition to the above has been started under NFSM since 2010-11. Further, a Special Plan to achieve more than 19 million tonne of pulse production during 2012-13 has also been initiated.

While the country produced 17,575.5 thousand tonne of pulses in 2012-13, the production in the previous year was 17,088.9 thousand tonne and in 2010-11 it was 18,240.9 thousand tonne. Oilseeds production was 29,465.3 thousand tonne in 2012-13, 29,798.7 thousand tonne in 2011-12 and 32,479.0 thousand tonne in 2010-11.
