Asian markets settle mostly lower on Monday

26 Jun 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly lower on Monday driven by Wall Street's fall last Friday with concerns that more interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve could tip the US economy into a recession. Meanwhile, investors were focusing for more clarity after an abortive weekend mutiny by Russian mercenaries. Japanese shares fell after the summary of opinions of the Bank of Japan's June policy meeting showed that a board member hinted at the need to discuss the yield curve control policy. Moreover, Chinese shares declined as tourism and mobility data during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival pointed to weak economic recovery, while disappointment over a lack of big stimulus package to boost growth also dampened sentiments.
