BJP at Centre for 6 more months, LS polls in Feb-Mar 2024: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee today claimed that the BJP-led government at the Centre will only last for six more months as the Lok Sabha (LS) polls will be held in February-March next year.

Speaking at a rally in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal for the upcoming panchayat elections, Banerjee said the Border Security Force (BSF) to work impartially, stating that the saffron party may not remain in power tomorrow. However, she clarified that she was not accusing all BSF officials, as they play an important role in guarding the borders. She claimed that the BJP is not trying to lobby different groups and communities as they are sensing their defeat in the LS elections 2024.

Mamata Banerjee also announced compensation of Rs 2 lakhs and job opportunities for the families of those killed in allegedly in firing by the BSF at the border areas. Her remarks came after she accused the BSF of intimidating voters on behalf of the BJP in the bordering areas, which was strongly denied by the border-guarding force and called allegation as ‘far from the truth’. The panchayat elections in West Bengal’s rural areas held on 8 July.
