Asian markets settled mostly higher on Monday

10 Jul 2023 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Monday as weak Chinese inflation data fuelled expectations for more stimulus measures in the world’s second largest economy. Data showed that Chinese consumer price inflation remained flat in June, while producer prices fell the most since December 2015. Chinese shares gained as US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen gave a positive assessment of bilateral ties between the US and China at the end of her trip to Beijing. However, Japanese shares declined as a mixed US jobs reports fuelled fears that the US Federal Reserve might resume interest rate hikes later this month, while a stronger yen also weighed on Japanese markets.
