Karnataka Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar along with MLAs, Ministers, MPs and party leaders in the state today staged a ‘silent protest’ in Bengaluru’s Freedom Park, against the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Parliament.

The protestors were seen by wearing a black ribbon on their mouth to symbolically convey that the freedom of speech was in danger and anyone speaking against the Central government would face backlash. A photograph of Rahul Gandhi with the message that the ‘roar of the truth must prevail’ was displayed on posters at the satyagraha.

This comes after the Gujarat High Court dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s plea to stay his conviction and two-year jail term in a criminal defamation case, costing him his Parliament membership. Congress said it will move the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court's verdict. Similar protest were also held in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chhattisgarh, among other states. The Congress did not hold protests in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab due to the heavy rainfall and flood conditions in the northern states.
